Not Yet 'Joni'
-uneg-uneg-
I had heard about this movie long before its release in 2005, when I was still a 'ca-kru' (or.. not yet a crew) at LFM -- Liga Film Mahasiswa. Janji Joni or Joni's Promise is one of Indonesia best movie, with a really fresh idea, although the 'excecution' wasn't really great.
To quote from Wikipedia, this movie tells about Joni:
"Joni works as a film/reel delivery man in Jakarta. One day, while waiting for the next pick-up, Joni meets a charming girl who is going to catch a film with her boyfriend Otto. The girl would only reveal her name to Joni if he successfully delivers the reels on time. However, things do not turn out well on that day as Joni faces obstacles such as the city's notorious traffic and various people that may disrupt his task."
Sadly, I haven't met any indonesian that has his 'spirit'.. or I should say 'integrity'. Not even if Mariana Renata is the one that 'drives' it. After one by one promises that my friends made to me was dropped, I started to doubt their integrity.. our integrity.. my integrity.
Compare to our next door neighbour, Singapore, Australia or even Malaysia, we--Indonesian--often neglect our promises or plan that we've made, that leaves us with piles and piles of unfinished matters. We easily forget and disrespect our commitment.
Instead of making a good plan, we're tend to sacrifice what we've had. Integrity is a real issue here: to commit to what we've promised and do our best to keep it on track, and courage to say 'No' if we meet something else that may 'interrupt' it along the way. Of course, obstacles are there, we may change our priority too, but we shouldn't be 'defeated' before the real 'battle' is begin.
We're still not yet as tough as 'Janji Joni'.
