Stranger than Fiction

- berbagi cerita -

Mom thought me how to greet people on the phone or when I meet one in the street. But she never thought me what to say and do when an old lady stand there in front of my house, her hands cover with blood, shivering, and asking for help...

Her name was Audrey. I found out about her later on at the hospital. I remember hesitation in her voice, “Do you think I'm crazy?” At that moment, I was the one that should have asked that question.

It was an ordinary Saturday. I was still try to recover from my long driving the night before. By the way, I went to Blackwater last Tuesday for a meeting and drove straight after it to Yeppoon for 3-days course and then back. Total, I put my foot on the pedal for 829 kilometers. I was dead-flat!

So, my plan was to 'be lazy' and do a little bit of shopping and watch some movies. I rent Zodiac and Bobby. I went back, and played Zodiac--a movie about a serial killer that once lived in the US around 60s-70s--on my PowerBook. Just when I was deep into the thrill, I heard my door slammed. I thought it was wind. But, then I heard someone downstairs calling.

I ran down and saw an old-lady, already in the house, wearing a pair of blue slippers. “I'm sorry. But, can you help me?!” She was shaking. I needed a couple of seconds to realize there was blood on her hands, still fresh. I checked myself: Am I still watching the movie? If that so, where's Jake Gyllenhal, Mark Ruffalo and Robert Downey Jr.? Was she one of Zodiac's victim--crying for help?

“What happened with your hands?” The one that crossed my mind was that there was a traffic accident in front of my house. But, she said no, “Please help me!”

“Do you want me to take you to the hospital?” She just nodded agree.

“Okay, wait there, I'll take my keys and we'll go.” But she kept walk up, following me. “No, no.. stay there. I'll be back in a sec.” She continued to step up the stairs as if someone was chasing her.

“She's gonna kill me,” she said.

What??? -- She's must me joking! I quickly ran to my room and grab my keys and then I heard someone open my door. “Oh shit! It must be the Zodiac!” A guy in red shirt and blue short came up. “I'm a dead guy!”

He asked her to come down with him. But she refused. I heard another voice from my door downstairs, a woman's voice. She tried to explain something, that her mother just had had 'an episode'.

I tried to convince the old lady that I'll accompany her to the hospital. She looked afraid with this guy but he still tried to make her go with him. “I'll take her to the hospital,” I said. So, we walked down slowly and off we go with my car.

---

The nurse that I met at the Dysart Hospital said that she was one of her patient. She had a partial-dementia that caused her to imagine things.. that her daughter try to kill her or a monster was hiding in her room and things like that.

I still remember her eyes. I could see that she was confuse and afraid at the same time. She asked the nurse and I in the room number 3, “Do you think I'm crazy?”

She said that she was sorry to brought me into this trouble. But she didn't want me to go too because she was afraid. So, I stayed there until she comfortable with her room and the nurse back and cleaned her hands.

After that I went out and talked to her daughter, Jannie, and Paul--her colleague. They explained what had happened.

Mmmhh.. sometimes life is stranger than fiction!

Rasa Sayang itu...

-yang sedang hangat-

Rasa sayange rasa sayang sayange...

Rasa sayange rasa sayang sayange...

Mari bernyanyi...

Rasa sayange rasa sayang sayange...
